Maybe 2020 was a great year to have launched your podcast BUT you’re not even close to being late to the party. There’s still every opportunity to step in, make an impact, and enjoy all the success that comes with it.
The podcasting industry has just marked two major wins. First, the Golden Globes announced it will officially recognize podcasts as a category starting in 2026.
“As the world of entertainment continues to evolve, we are excited to recognize new forms of storytelling. Podcasts have emerged as a profound medium for sharing narratives and building communities across global borders and generations. By celebrating achievements in both audio and visual podcasts, we aim to honor our heritage categories while making room for new voices and formats to be heard,” said Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne in a press release.
Secondly, podcasting generated a staggering $7.3 billion in global sales in 2024, double what was originally predicted.
Here in South Africa, podcasting is rapidly becoming one of the most popular and fastest growing mediums dominating both in audio and visual formats. And the lineup of fresh, exciting entries just keeps growing.
