Over the past couple of Formula One seasons, South African influencers have done more to educate the masses about the sport than any other outlet has in decades.
The best way to describe it is Edutainment because of the education, entertainment and aspirational content value they are bringing, all wrapped in one. They’ve made the sport relatable and exciting to a demographic that’s only recently falling in love with it.
Formula One, long known as an elite and exclusive sport, has never felt more accessible. And that’s what influencing does at its best, it doesn’t cater to those already in the know, it invites those on the outside in. It sparks curiosity, builds understanding, and ignites passion.
With the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) recently approving the final design proposals to elevate the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit to Grade 1 status which a key requirement for hosting Formula One races, the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
These women are bringing Formula One to the people with knowledge, style, and serious flair. Lewis Hamilton might have been the only name most of us knew in F1 but thanks to the likes of Pamela Mtanga, Karabo Didi, Nqobile Kwezi, and Nomzamo Mbatha we now know that paddocks aren’t just for horses and cows.
Whether it’s Karabo Didi breaking down the sport in a way anyone can understand, Pamela Mtanga showing the madness and magic of race weekends, Nqobile Kwezi giving us an insider’s view, or Nomzamo Mbatha having a global F1 moment in front of millions, it’s clear that Formula One is in good hands as far as fans are concerned.
