When podcasting became popular, it was widely predicted that it would mark the slow death of radio as we knew it. However, radio not only endured, it’s thriving.
What few predicted however is the rise of content creators and influencers who have already experienced success stepping into roles as radio and media personalities. A trend that’s become popular so much so that it’s currently a discourse across social media, globally. With growing debate around how creators are securing hosting opportunities largely off the back of their online popularity, often ahead of traditionally trained media professionals.
On the flip side, we’ve seen trained media personalities make a seamless crossover into content creation, particularly podcasting; leveraging the audiences they’ve built over years in radio and television. It seems fair to conclude that the lines between the traditional entertainment industry and the creator economy have been blurred for some time now.
The latest influencer to join radio is Munaka Muthambi, who joins Y FM as part of what the station is calling a ‘cultural glow-up’. She will host THE RIZZ on Saturdays from 5PM–6PM, spotlighting rising stars and bridging the gap between what’s hot in the streets and what’s next on Y.
She joins other influencers and creators who are already part of Y including Okay Wasabi and Sinaye Kotobe to name a few.
“This line-up is a true reflection of where we are as a brand and where youth culture is going. We’re constantly evolving, constantly creating, and always looking for new ways to connect with our audience. 2026 is about being louder, bolder, and more fearless than ever before. And Y NOT?” stated Y’s Programme Manager Phindile Ziqubu on the new line-up.
Y Line-Up goes LIVE from Wednesday, 1st April.
