Television as we know it is evolving. Once operating as an independent media force, often in competition with social platforms for audience attention; is now increasingly leaning into digital ecosystems to sustain viewership and drive relevance.
To navigate this new era, Top Billing, set to return to screens on April 30, has assembled an elite team of personalities shaping the conversation around style, success, and local achievement. The refreshed line-up blends the nostalgic appeal of the show’s most beloved icons with the dynamic energy of a new generation of cultural leaders.
Among the new additions is Sine Mpulu, a standout example of this shift. His appointment shows how social media’s influence on television, from scripting to on-air talent can no longer be overlooked. Having built a strong following as a voice-over artist and content creator, Mpulu made a name for himself through his TikTok series, TikTok Billing. Now, the platform that inspired his content has come full circle, bringing him into the Top Billing fold.
As the show’s dedicated social media presenter, Mpulu will introduce a digitally driven layer to the brand. His role will extend the Top Billing experience beyond the screen, offering behind-the-scenes access, exclusive moments with presenters and guests, and real-time engagement across the show’s digital platforms.
He is not alone in representing this new wave. The updated line-up also includes globally recognised figures with strong digital influence, such as Miss Universe 2019, Zozibini Tunzi, who is set to bring a contemporary lens to storytelling and modern success.
Joining her is Miss South Africa 2023 runner-up Bryoni Govender, alongside actor and content creator Arno Greeff. Each brings a loyal social media audience, reinforcing the show’s strategy to connect with a younger, digitally native viewership.
“Selecting the new faces of Top Billing was not an easy process, and it’s a decision we approached with great care. It was important that the line-up reflects a progressive, curious South Africa—one that is open to new ideas, new perspectives, and new ways of being,” said Dichaba Phalatse, Marketing Manager for SABC Video Entertainment.
The returning veteran hosts include Dr Michael Mol, Basetsana Kumalo, Jonathan Boynton-Lee, Dr Fez Mkhize, and Ryle De Morny, all bringing continuity and credibility to the evolving format.
Top Billing premieres on Thursday, 30 April at 19:00 on S3, with a repeat every Sunday at 13:00 on S3 and a rebroadcast every Tuesday at 21:30 on SABC 1.
